HPE scores a Silver Plus SDEA label at their Customer Innovation Center in Geneva
Oct. 6, 2021 – Press release

The Swiss Datacenter Efficiency Association (SDEA) is proud to announce the successful SDEA Label certification of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) datacenter at their Customer Innovation Center in Geneva, achieving the Silver Plus SDEA label certifying both high efficiency and low emissions.

The announcement was made during the EcoCloud Sustainability Days on Sept. 16, 2021 at SwissTech in Lausanne, following a panel discussion organized by SDEA on “Efficiency & Emissions in Datacenters: Metrics, Standards and the Economics” moderated by Babak Falsafi, the president of the association with the participation of panelists from the HPE, Schneider Electric, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and Green Datacenter AG

“Today, we have reached a key milestone in our mission to demonstrate end-to-end quantitative evaluation of efficiency and emissions in datacenters.” says Babak Falsafi. “The IT industry saw an exponential growth in silicon-based chip density in all digital platforms for fifty years, governed by Moore’s Law. The slowdown in Moore’s Law in recent years means that the continued exponential growth in the demand for IT services may result in a commensurate growth in the DC market. This label is a first step in bringing a vivid lens into energy use and emissions in this fast growing market.”

“The Swiss Data Center Efficiency Label is a decisive step towards decarbonization of data centers because, in contrast to other methodologies, it considers all dimensions of energy consumption, supply and reuse,” says Martin Casaulta, Chief Technologist - HPE Switzerland. “This not only benefits the environment, but also has positive economic effects for data-centers. We encourage every organization to join this effort,” declares Anthony Palmieri, Chief Business Innovation Officer - HPE Switzerland.

SDEA also thanks its premium sponsor, Schneider Electric, for their support and commitment to the label. “Switzerland has positioned itself as a key destination for DC in Europe. A strong knowledge and installed base have been built in the country over the last 3 years with more to come in the future.” says Vincent Barro, Vice-President of Secure Power Zone DACH at Schneider Electric. He adds “Schneider Electric is proud to be part of this initiative, which is totally aligned with our purpose and mission: we want to empower our customers to make the most of energy and resources and to help them set and reach sustainability targets and minimize their carbon footprint. Carbon being the main metric for sustainability. We congratulate HPE, our alliance partner, for this achievement and will be glad to collaborate with them and their customers to do the same.”
