ABB and SDEA Partner to Deliver Measurable Efficiency in Data Centers

ABB Switzerland and the Swiss Datacenter Efficiency Association (SDEA) are forming a partnership. The technology group and the Swiss certification organization aim to work together to help data centers use energy more efficiently.

Data centers are among the fastest-growing consumers of electricity in Switzerland. ABB provides electrification and automation solutions that enable data centers to be designed, built, and operated more reliably, efficiently, and scalably – from power supply “from the source to the rack” to motors and drive technology to cooling components. For its part, SDEA certifies the sustainability of data centers based on 12 months of measured operational data, verified by independent auditors.

Both organizations are pursuing the same goal from two different angles: ABB through technology that reduces energy consumption during operation, and SDEA through an independent benchmark that allows efficiency to be measured, compared, and verified during ongoing operations. Through this partnership, ABB is endorsing this Swiss standard; SDEA gains a partner with direct access to the operators, planners, and engineers who will determine the efficiency of future datacenters.

Joint Events and Content

The collaboration begins with joint events for data center operators in Switzerland, where operators, planners, and manufacturers will discuss operational efficiency. Over the course of the partnership, both organizations plan to publish joint content based on real-world use cases that demonstrate which operational measures actually make a difference.
