SDEA Expands Offerings to Lead the Way in Datacenter and IT Efficiency

As we grapple with the escalating energy demands of our digital age, the Swiss Datacenter Efficiency Association (SDEA) introduces two new offerings designed to enhance the measurement and optimization of datacenter and IT infrastructure efficiency: the SDEA Navigator and the IT Certification.

The SDEA Navigator is a comprehensive online tool designed to measure and optimize datacenter energy efficiency and carbon footprint. Available to all interested parties, it includes three unique calculators:

  • DC Infrastructure Efficiency: Enhances the traditional PUE metric by including options for heat recovery.

  • IT Infrastructure Efficiency: Evaluates the efficiency of servers, storage, and network, focusing on utilization and technology excellence.

  • CO₂ Footprint: Accounts for emissions from incoming and self-produced energy sources.

The SDEA Navigator is unique in its ability to measure full-stack efficiency and the end-to-end climate impact of datacenter operations, delivering precise insights into energy usage and sustainability.

Boosting IT-Efficiency With SDEA Label

The new IT Certification assesses the efficiency of IT components, such as servers, storage, and network utilization. This certification is now available independently, specifically designed for owners of IT Infrastructure – both on-premise and in a colocation DC – seeking independent certification.

An SDEA Label for IT infrastructure can give companies that want to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability a decisive competitive advantage.

Addressing the Growing Energy Demands of IT

The introduction of these two offerings comes at a critical time, as the electricity consumption of IT infrastructure has become a growing concern. The rise of generative AI, known for its high computational demands, has significantly contributed to this increase. Studies indicate that AI's power consumption is doubling roughly every 100 days, with projections estimating that generative AI alone could consume as much electricity as entire countries within a few years.

Given the urgent need for action, the SDEA Navigator and IT Certification provide the tools necessary to address the escalating energy demands and pave the way for sustainable datacenter operations.
