The web hosting provider from Espelkamp is the first German company to receive a verified data center certification from SDEA. The Silver Plus label for data center infrastructure is based on twelve months of operational data and an independent audit.

mittwald is the first company in Germany to receive the SDEA Label. The SDEA certification verifies the sustainability of data centers based on measured operational data and was officially awarded on August 20th. mittwald achieved the SILVER Plus level for its data center infrastructure.

Unlike design-based assessments, SDEA Label relies exclusively on real-world performance. It is based on twelve months of operational data, verified by an independent audit. Up to four dimensions are evaluated: data center efficiency, IT efficiency, the carbon footprint of energy used, and water consumption. The "Plus" designation signifies low CO₂ emissions and efficient water management.

Sustainability Anchored in the Company for Years

mittwald runs its data center in Espelkamp entirely on electricity purchased from renewable energy sources and uses the waste heat from the servers to heat its office buildings. Sustainability has been a core principle of the company for years, which was recently nominated as a finalist for the German Sustainability Award 2026. The SDEA Label now provides a verified and comparable documentation of these efforts.

For SDEA, the certification of mittwald is the first step into the German market. The organization's framework was recently mentioned in an expert report for the German Federal Ministry for the Environment as a possible blueprint for EU-wide reporting .
