Independent expert panel recognizes SDEA's online measurement platform at the industry's largest global event. The win validates the Navigator's holistic approach to complete operational sustainability.

Data Centre World Awards 2026

The SDEA Navigator won the Data Centre World Award for "Special Contribution to Improving Energy Efficiency" on March 4 in London. The recognition comes from an independent panel of experts across engineering, operations, and sustainability who assessed entries against transparent benchmarks. For a platform that challenges the industry's reliance on partial metrics and unverified claims, the win validates that comprehensive, measurement-based sustainability assessment resonates beyond pioneer operators to industry-wide recognition.

About DCW London & The Awards

Data Centre World London is the world's largest datacenter event, bringing together 15'000 industry professionals every year at ExCeL London. The event features an extensive conference program covering sustainability, automation, AI-driven optimization, and next-generation infrastructure design.

The DCW Awards are reviewed by an independent panel of experts selected for their expertise across engineering, operations, technology development, and sustainability. The "Special Contribution to Improving Energy Efficiency" award recognizes outstanding achievements in boosting datacenter efficiency through innovative strategies that demonstrate measurable improvements.

The SDEA Navigator is the first online tool that measures complete datacenter sustainability across four dimensions: datacenter efficiency, IT efficiency, carbon footprint, and water usage. Where traditional approaches measure facility infrastructure in isolation, the Navigator assesses the entire operational picture – infrastructure, compute, carbon, and water – individually or combined, based on what operators actually run.

The Navigator's innovation lies in its holistic view. It measures what others ignore – IT efficiency, not just facility metrics. It works for any infrastructure size or configuration. It delivers actionable insights rather than compliance data. The platform requires 12 months of actual operational data, enables independent verification through SDEA Label, and measures complete sustainability rather than isolated KPIs that can be optimized for marketing rather than performance.

From Pioneer Tool to Industry Standard

The win validates the work of the SDEA community that built and refined the Navigator: volunteers who developed the technical framework, ambassadors who advocated for comprehensive measurement, certified operators who proved the methodology works in practice, and technical experts who refined the four-dimension assessment model.

This marks SDEA's third major award recognition within a year, but the first win – signaling the industry is moving from acknowledging comprehensive verification as interesting to accepting it as necessary. When stakeholders can no longer distinguish real efficiency from marketing, and when regulations tighten while energy grows scarce, holistic measurement stops being a differentiator and becomes the standard.
